Garmin TT15 Antenna Upgrade Guide — Extend Range to 10–20 Miles

The Garmin TT15 GPS collar is one of the most capable dog tracking collars ever made — but its stock antenna caps your range at 4 miles in ideal conditions, and much less in real hunting terrain. An Xtenda Range ground plane antenna upgrade extends that to 10–20 miles with no modification to the collar.

Confirmed Compatible: All Xtenda Range GPS antennas use a standard SMA connector and are pre-tuned to the GPS L1 frequency (1575.42 MHz) used by all Garmin TT15, TT15 Mini, T5, T5 Mini, Alpha 100, Alpha 200, Alpha 200i, and Astro 430 devices.

The TT15 Range Problem

Garmin advertises the TT15 at a 4-mile range in flat, open terrain with line-of-sight between collar and handheld. In the real world — hardwood timber, creek bottoms, mountain ridges — that number drops fast. The stock collar antenna is a short rubber stub with no ground plane, so up to 60% of its signal radiates in the wrong direction.

How to Upgrade Your TT15 System

Step 1: Upgrade the Vehicle or Handheld Antenna

A magnetic-base Xtenda Range antenna mounted on your truck roof dramatically improves reception — 4-element ground plane vs. stock quarter-wave stub. This is the highest-impact change per dollar.

Step 2: Upgrade the TT15 Collar Antenna

Replace the short stock antenna on each TT15 collar with an Xtenda Range replacement. This improves signal radiated from the dog's end.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will upgrading the antenna void my Garmin warranty?
Garmin's warranty covers hardware defects in the device itself. Replacing the antenna is a user-serviceable change and does not void the device warranty.
Do I need to upgrade both the collar and the handheld antenna?
Upgrading just the vehicle antenna gives you the biggest improvement per dollar. Upgrading the collar antenna as well adds additional range.
Does this work in Canada and Australia?
GPS operates on a universal frequency worldwide. Xtenda Range antennas work anywhere Garmin devices are used — we have customers in Canada, Australia, and Germany.
